Featured Mobster: Camera Fun Free
| Posted By : Laura In : Developer Community, Featured Mobster
This month we sat down with Vinay Athma, Founder of SpiceLoop to get the scoop on their awesome app, Camera Fun. Camera Fun is a beautiful point & shoot Photoshop camera for fun and entertainment. With 6 lens effects in the Free version and 28 in the Pro version, you’ll stay entertained for hours and have beautiful pictures to share with family and friends.
The Stats
Total Downloads: About 1.2 million downloads (for Camera Fun Pro/Free) across iPhone and Android platforms.
1) What inspired you to build the app?
I wanted to build a camera based entertainment app that appeals to kids and adults alike – something that is fun to use and yet technically innovative. Camera Fun is basically a point & shoot Photoshop camera that is bound to bring out laughs and giggles. Just point your device camera and you see LIVE Photoshop effects on the screen BEFORE you click a picture. Our users use the app to click all kinds of funny pictures that they share with family and friends! Camera Fun got rave reviews in the Wall Street Journal and was also picked as a Featured app on Android Market.
2) Why does the ad revenue model make sense for you?
Displaying ads in the Free version of our app gets us incremental revenue that adds up over time. More importantly, we can use the Mobclix platform to display ‘house ads’ to cross sell our other apps.
3) Why did you choose Mobclix?
We wanted one ad provider that we could use for our apps on both iPhone and Android and also the ability to get the iAds using the same platform.
4) What tips do you have for other developers?
Take the time to craft and polish the app before releasing it. Most app publishers (including us) have the tendency to jump the gun and release a quick 1.0 version and postpone a lot of features, fixes and UI polishing for a subsequent release. This can work against you because users who are put off with a mediocre 1.0 release may never want to see your 2.0 release. Instead, if you take the time to release a solid well polished 1.0, you are increasing the odds that the users who use your initial release will continue using your app and even recommend it to their friends. In addition, a solid 1.0 release also boosts the possibility of your app being picked as a “Featured” app by the editorial staff at iPhone AppStore or Android Market – when it happens, that’s like winning a lottery!!
